SIMPLE VEGAN GRILLED CHEESE

Plant-based cooking is all about finding different ways to make your favourite recipes. Today we’re starting off with the easiest recipe of all, the grilled cheese sandwich. We’ll also be sharing 3 ways to make this classic sandwich a little bit more interesting.


STEP 1: PREPARE THE PAN

Set your pan on medium heat. Heating the pan beforehand, will allow for faster and more even toasting.

You can use which ever plant-based cheese you’d like!

 

STEP TWO: ASSEMBLE

Butter the full side of the bread and assemble the sandwich. This is where you can also add your extra toppings.

STEP THREE: MELT AND TOAST

To help the cheese melt faster without burning the bread, cover the pan with a lid. This helps to trap the heat and cook the sandwich more evenly.

 

STEP FOUR: SLICE AND ENJOY

That’s it! You’re ready to slice and eat the sandwich.

ADDITIONAL TOPPINGS

Here are 3 different ways you can spruce up your grilled cheese sandwich:

  1. Mustard

    • Adding mustard to the bread, can add a tangy flavour and cut the simple taste of the cheese.

  2. Pesto and Spinach

    • Try adding pesto to the bread and spinach to the cheese. Shred the cheese first, and mix it before assembling the sandwich.

  3. Spicy Mayo & Plant-Based Bacon

    • Mix mayo with sriracha and use it as your spread.

    • You can also mix some plant-based bacon or any meat alternative of your choice, with the cheese!
